Messaging nodes send WhatsApp messages from a bot. They share a few rules (see Conditions & actions): opted-out contacts are skipped, a failed send is logged but the flow continues, and only templates are safe outside the 24-hour window. Messages a bot sends show in the chat labelled with the bot's name.

Send Message (send_message)

A free-form text message, optionally with one media file.

FieldWhat it doesLimits
Media (optional)None, URL or Upload.—
Media URL / uploadThe file to send. Type (image, video, audio, document) is detected from the extension and shown as "Detected: …".URL must start with https://. Upload limits: JPEG/PNG up to 5 MB, MP4 up to 16 MB, PDF up to 100 MB. Accepted URL types: JPG, PNG, MP4, 3GP, AAC, AMR, MP3, M4A, OGG, PDF, DOC(X), PPT(X), XLS(X), TXT.
Message bodyThe text. With media it becomes the caption. Supports {{field:…}}, {{attr:…}}, {{shopify:…}}, {{quicksell:…}}.1024 characters in the editor
  • If there is no media and the body resolves to nothing, nothing is sent.
  • A media link that isn't http(s) is dropped and the text is sent alone.
  • Documents are sent with the file name taken from the end of the URL.
  • Output: a single connection to the next node. Outside the 24-hour window WhatsApp rejects the message; the step is logged as failed and the flow continues.

Activation errors: empty text and no media, or media whose type can't be worked out.

Send Template (send_template)

Sends an approved WhatsApp template — the only message type that works outside the 24-hour window. See Templates.

FieldWhat it does
Select TemplateLists approved templates only.
Template VariablesOne row per placeholder in the header and body. Fill each with a value picked from Field (contact fields: Profile Name, First/Last Name, Phone, WhatsApp ID; custom attributes; WooCommerce order fields; Shopify order fields) or type a fixed value. Well-known variable names are linked automatically when you pick the template.
  • A picked field shows as a chip you can remove with ×. A reference that resolves to nothing is sent as an empty value.
  • Header images/videos/documents come from the template itself. The bot node has no override.
  • Templates with a WhatsApp Flow button get a one-time flow link tied to this bot.
  • Call-permission templates are skipped if Calling isn't enabled for the workspace.
  • A template that has been deleted is skipped without error; a template that's disabled by your plan limit or not approved fails the step.
  • Outputs: On Sent (always, at the top), plus one output per quick-reply button of the template, named after the button. If any button output is connected, the bot waits up to 24 hours for the tap and then continues down that button's path.

Activation errors: no template, template deleted/disabled/not approved, any unmapped variable, or a header media link that isn't https:// or has the wrong file type.

Send Interactive Message (send_interactive_message)

A message with up to three tappable reply buttons.

FieldWhat it doesLimit
HeaderNone, Text or Media (image or video upload).Text 60 characters
BodyThe message. Required.1024 characters
FooterSmall grey text.60 characters
Buttons+ Button, then the label for each.Max 3 buttons, 20 characters each, no leading spaces
  • Body, header, footer and button text support {{field:…}} and {{attr:…}} only.
  • Text that's too long is cut to the limit when sent; the builder blocks Save if a field is over the limit.
  • Outputs: On Sent plus one output per button. Routing is by the button text, so renaming a button re-wires its connection and two buttons can't share text (activation error).
  • With any button output connected, the bot waits 24 hours for a tap. An unconnected button is a warning, not an error.

Send Interactive List (send_interactive_list)

A message with a menu button that opens a list of choices.

FieldWhat it doesLimit
HeaderNone or text (media headers aren't supported on lists).60 characters
BodyRequired.1024 characters
FooterOptional.60 characters
List Button TextThe button that opens the menu (for example "View Options").20 characters; "View" if left empty
Sections+ Section with a Section title, then + Item with an Item title.Max 10 sections and 10 items in total; titles 24 characters
  • Variables work in body, header, footer and button text — not in section or item titles.
  • Items get an internal ID automatically; routing uses that ID, so renaming an item is safe.
  • The builder has no description field per item, though WhatsApp supports one (72 characters).
  • Anything over 10 sections/items is dropped when sent, and the validator warns.
  • Outputs: On Sent plus one per item, with the same 24-hour wait as buttons.

See Interactive replies for how taps are matched and prioritised.

Send WhatsApp Flow (send_flow)

Sends a multi-step form to fill in. See WhatsApp Flows.

FieldWhat it does
FlowPick from your published flows. The name and description show below the dropdown. If you have none: "No published flows yet. Create and publish one under Flows first."
  • The header, body, footer and button label come from the flow's own send settings (button defaults to "Open Flow"); the flow opens on its first screen.
  • Needs the WhatsApp Flows module on your plan. The flow must exist on WhatsApp and have screens.
  • Outputs: On Submission runs when the customer submits the form (the bot waits up to 24 hours); On Sent runs right after the flow is sent. If the send fails, the flow continues down On Submission straight away — check the log.
  • Submitted answers are saved as flow submissions; see Automate flow responses.

Send Catalogue (send_catalogue)

Sends QuickSell catalogues, products or a cart reminder. It has its own page: Send Catalogue. Unlike the nodes above it has a Not sent output and checks the 24-hour window, plan and QuickSell connection itself.
