Bot Triggers

Every event that can start a LeadPattern bot — new leads, incoming messages, tag and attribute changes, conversation events, calls and more.

A trigger is the event that starts a bot. Every bot has exactly one trigger, chosen when you create it. When that event happens for a contact, the bot's flow begins.

Message triggers

On message (on_message)

Fires when a customer sends an incoming message. The most common trigger for support and menu bots. If an interactive reply is being waited on (see below), that takes priority and these bots are skipped for that message.

On first daily message (on_first_daily_message)

Fires on the first message a customer sends each day — useful for a once-a-day greeting without repeating it on every message.

On no keyword match (on_no_keyword_match)

Fires when an incoming message didn't match any of your keyword-based automation — a fallback for "I didn't understand that" replies or routing to a human.

Lead and contact triggers

On new lead (on_new_lead)

Fires when a brand-new contact is created — ideal for a welcome sequence.

On click-to-WhatsApp lead (on_ctwa_lead)

Fires when a contact arrives from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, so you can greet ad traffic differently from organic chats.

On attribute change (on_attribute_change)

Fires when a contact's custom attribute changes value — for example when a lead's status moves to "qualified".

Conversation and agent triggers

On agent assign (on_agent_assign)

Fires when a conversation is assigned to an agent — useful to notify or set context.

On open conversation (on_open_conversation)

Fires when a conversation is (re)opened.

On close conversation (on_close_conversation)

Fires when a conversation is closed — a natural moment to send a satisfaction follow-up.

On template delivered (on_template_delivered)

Fires when a specific template message is delivered. You pick which template name to match, so the bot only runs for that template.

Call triggers

On incoming call (on_incoming_call)

Fires when a WhatsApp call comes in — for example to send a "we'll call you back" message.

On call permission granted (on_call_permission_granted)

Fires when a customer grants call permission.

E-commerce triggers

If you've connected a store, WooCommerce order events can start a bot — for example to send an order confirmation or a shipping update. See Integrations to connect a store first.

How trigger priority works

When a customer taps a button or list item that a bot is waiting on, that interactive reply is handled first. If it matches, on_message bots are skipped for that message so the customer doesn't get two conflicting replies. Read more in Interactive replies.
