What Are Templates?

Understand WhatsApp message templates in LeadPattern — pre-approved messages you use to start conversations or reach customers outside the 24-hour window.

2 min readUpdated Oct 5, 2026

A template is a pre-approved WhatsApp message. You write it in LeadPattern, submit it to Meta for approval, and once approved you can send it to customers — including people you haven't messaged in a while.

Where you'll use templates

Starting conversations

Reach out first with an approved template, since there's no open 24-hour window yet.

Re-engaging customers

Message someone whose last reply was more than 24 hours ago.

Broadcasts

Every broadcast sends an approved template to its audience. See

Broadcasts overview
Automations

Bots and flows send approved templates at the right moment.

What a template can contain

  • Body text — the main message, with optional variables that fill in per recipient.
  • Buttons — quick-reply, link (URL) or call-to-action buttons.
  • A category and language — set when you create it, and reviewed by Meta.
