Why Templates Get Rejected

Understand why Meta rejects WhatsApp templates in LeadPattern, the most common reasons, and how to edit and resubmit a rejected template for approval.

A rejected template is one Meta declined during review. It's a normal part of the process — the good news is you can fix the issue, edit the template and resubmit it.

Common reasons for rejection

Wrong category

A promotional message submitted as a utility (or vice versa) is one of the most frequent rejections. Pick the category that honestly matches the content.

Variable problems

Starting or ending the body with a lone placeholder, or stacking placeholders with no text between them, reads as spammy. See

Template variables
Spammy or misleading content

Excessive capital letters, vague "click here to win" offers, and claims that can't be verified get declined.

Problematic buttons

Link buttons pointing to disallowed or misleading destinations are rejected. See

Template buttons
Formatting and placeholders

Broken formatting, unmatched placeholders, or sample values that don't match the message can all trip up review.

Fix and resubmit

1

Read the rejection reason

Meta returns a reason with the rejection. Start there — it points at what to change.

2

Edit the template

Adjust the content, category, variables or buttons to resolve the issue.

3

Resubmit for review

Submitting creates a new version in pending status. The template keeps its history so you can see what you changed.
